Bipolarity part 1
So, I've been MAJORLY bipolar on my story concepts lately. I'm currently tossing around ideas for two other webcomics (I refuse to do more than 3 at once e_e;) since I don't want to have just one, and my mind's been running rampant lately.
So since this is also my creativity journal, I'll write about that now.
Aside from Improbable Probability, which I've put off until I've mastered my style, and Millennium which is my ever-so-beloved guinea pig, I'm trying to come up with two other solid ideas for webcomics that I really like that I won't regret starting a month later.
And it's hard.
I have many concepts derived from dreams/daydreams/out of nowhere. I can't make a lot of them work, because all of my stories are similar (quest! something happens, and then there's an adventure for it) or I just can't think of an original plot device. It's really sad - I can't come up with more about my ideas! I wonder how Millennium ever got so developed!
Anyway, it was basically about an Indonesian girl who was stolen away to the parallel world of Ares/Sera (Dark/Light). The Ares use humans for their power (dunno if it was blood or spiritual power...) and only one other had ever escaped. The course it was going to take was: Girl escapes the Ares and joins the one other human on the Sera side, and there were going to be wars. Large, ugly battles. And lots of character interaction. I think that's something I like to do in all my stories...characters. Also, this has no questing involved, and is my only concept where humor is not the main focus, which is why I think it could be very strong.
ADDENDUM: Apparently I am now writing this in JaNoWriMo.
Concept 2 - First Kiss A concept based around a name! I recently started trying to develop this idea (recently being last week), but today I decided I wouldn't do this because it's too similar to IP. I don't need two stories about random battles/item retrieval. Though, this one was set in Japan, yes, Edo era. It came out too much like a mesh of Samurai Champloo (well, not really) and IP, and it made me a little sad. Though the main character would fight with superstitious ornaments and not special powarz...like all my other stories.
I'm sad, because I really liked the characters.
So, this slightly poor young man meets a man of mystery one day. That night, the man shows up at main chara's doorstep, wounded! The main guy takes him in. And after a little help...while he sleeps, the wounded guy kisses him and is gone the next morning! :O zomg random right? No, there's a reason. So, the main character seeks to find this guy. He quickly finds out that it was a wanted man, but he's payed a ton to find him. So starts a quest... On the side, this main character was also a "retriever" of peoples' lost stuff, which I think is a fun thing to toy around with.
Concept 3 - Landaluf Spontaneous. I really like this idea, but I'm afraid I'll lose interest. A perfect world of instant wishes and no evil is introduced to an outside element... and basically, it all goes to hell, thanks to one of the mayor's sons. All the wishes are wished away, as well as the Sun, and the city of Landaluf is ruined. His brother and sister have to go to the Great Wish Faerie to get their wishes back and somehow stop their brother, but the faerie's across the world - so, adventure. If I could think of all the basic events and places they go to, and make it ORIGINAL, I could make this work. It'd be fun too, because its style alone would make it so different than anything else I'd ever do.
* Star for Landaluf!
Concept 4 - Yet-unnamed Shounen Harem Yes, that's right. I'm vain enough to make a yaoi harem comic. I actually think this would be fun, because I'd develop all of the characters in special unique ways. Not that I don't tend to do that usually, but it's a harem comic!
I was pondering this on my drive home just 30 minutes ago. It went like this:
Ahh, the main character could be so cute!!!
Wait, where would it be set? Mmm...casino...restaurant...college...EW
I need someone who's WIDE!
THIS IDEA WOULD NEVER WORK! AAHH!
Rainbow hair!!
Oh crap! They need PERSONALITIES!
...I mostly need a premise and a setting, and I can fly with that. That's all I need for most things. (Well, I need a direction for adventures...x.x) But this is set in one general area! No adventures! Yay! (A questing yaoi harem would sure be interesting, though...)
Hehe...I could really mix it up...<3
Concept 5 - Jiff & Cinko Based on the stories I wrote between the ages of 4 and 11, Jiff and Five... were my two main characters' names. For whatever reason, lots of other animals (they were a blue cat/brown dog) joined them in their abode, and they went on Tom & Jerry-esque adventures. Well, now, the updated adult corrupt-mind version of their story is also a harem comic. Chances are if I do one I won't do the other, but I really like how both ideas could go. There are lots of men in this comic - but there are lots more women (I had to create more...).
Best friends Jiff & Cinko buy a house together after they're both thrown out by their parents. They decide to make a little extra money by boarding. They want to nab lots of female tenants, so in their ad they feign being gay so the ladies are safe! Turns out they have to keep up the facade to keep the ladies around. A lot of them already have boyfriends, but some find the two irresistably cute.
Also involved are rivals, gangs, and lots of messed-up stuff. See why I love this idea? It's going to be hard to choose which to do.
* Star for Jiff & Cinko!
EDIT: Concept 5.5 - Hey, as long as I'm raping manga, and to differentiate from the below concept, why don't I make it a mahou shoujo story?! With this particular set of characters, I really, really have no idea how this would work...at all, but hey! If I thought seriously, I could make it! They are my characters, after all.
It'd be a travesty to many people. Magical transforming catgirls. Catboys, too. And well, every-other-domestic-animal-girls and boys.
Concept 6 - Yet-unnamed Prophecy story Randomly inspired by an episode of Paranoia Agent. This was going to be set in Tokyo, Japan, but no. I decided New York City would be better - the other cliché extreme! I'd actually like another big city. But anyway, I don't really like this idea anymore. It's urban and modern, set in that one city. The main character - a regular guy, pretty young but already working in a Big Office - heard a prophecy from a mental clinic escapee. For starting to believe in it, he would eventually be trialed, jailed, thrown around all sorts of places. Problem is, I don't know what that prophecy is yet. I was going to make up total poetic BS and then actually refine it, but even if I did do that exceptionally well now, I dunno if I'm still interested. I just don't like the characters. Main guy was going to have a lot of Internet Friends that he meets in person at some point, though.
EDIT 3: Concept 7 - Dragon & Princess Actual name. Based off a game I played with my friend often when I was 11. I was always the Dragon, so Dragon is the center of the story. (It wouldn't work any other way, at least to me at the time :() Every day he tries to kidnap the princess, and every day he fails. There were spiral stairway escalators (? or SOMETHING) and complete lack of guards to protect her. And yet, he never succeeded.
This idea's actually pretty weak. It'd be one of few gag strip ideas I'd come up with (along with Untold Tales of Phantasia - hahaha), and I am not good at short gag strips. I also am not good at making a mockery of traditional princess-capture stories since they are a mockery in themselves. Oh, if I was just a little bit wittier.
Giant RED X for Dragon & Princess.
EDIT 2: Concept Alpha Also unnamed, this would be related to my recently completed short story for Illustration. I don't want to expand it really, but the idea's always there. Prince Henryk, angsty prince with abusive king father, runaway rebel who picks up men. But a lot less vain and a lot more serious. All the characters related to this are pretty. Pretty, pretty dragons.
Concept Gamma - Final Fantasy (S)Heaven Working name. When I beat FF7, I might just make a gag comic about it. I think up so many amusing things while playing, it's fun. I really do need to beat it, though. I think with some help I can pull this concept off. <3 I'm inspired by the game's style, too. Hehe.
I also had a story involving vampires. If I ever do anything with it I might make it horror, after some research (I'm horror deficient)... that would be different for me.
I think my creativity is too stifled in the writing area right now. I'm conceptually constipated. I need to think harder, read more.
Feedback and help would be much appreciated. <3
Remember where you heard it first.
*National November Writing Month. I don't know when I'll enter, since November for the next 2 years = finals time. Whose idea was it to put it in November? But, I might just start cold when I do enter - meaning 50,000 words of pure, spontaneous BS.
Well, you get what I mean.
