a menagerie of pictures!

For a contest I might enter if I can actually sit and focus on art for once!
I'm not excited about this idea anymore, but I do like the pic. My compositions tend to fall apart at torsos and legs lately (it's the ONE THING really bugging me)... help?

the other concept, and other things )

Finally, something I found in an old, seldom-used sketchbook from around my high school seniorhood:

Four years ago.
wtf.

And now, back to writing my own eulogy.
Then animating in Maya... which is insanely fun. *a very simple person.*

Nik
Good thing: I'm going to take advantage of academic discounts and buy Maya sometime before I graduate. Even if we don't have a Maya class, which I don't think we will now, boo.
Not-as-good thing: no time to do comics. Ack!
Better thing: Integrating new characters with class projects.

This is Nik (neek). He first appeared in my next-to-last illustration for Illustration II. I like him, so I was thinking of actually making him a character and a species. (I was thinking "merecat", but...Google it.) For what, no clue. This sketch is inaccurate - he looks a bit older than he's supposed to be and has too short a snout. Also, I can't seem to draw animals sitting, especially cats.

So, I'm using him for this flash in which he's watching a sunset and shooting stars. Something simple, for now.

His tail only has 3 animation frames. I might add two more if I don't get lazy before Wednesday. In fact, it's probably a good idea.

Conceptually concepting
Concepts. )

Novel = almost finished yay?! Mom's totally helping fund my publishing, which means all I need to worry about now is commissioning someone for my cover. I could do it myself, but it requires time and ability I don't really have. 'Course, I could always go minimalistic. Black, white, and grey, with perhaps bluish tints, work well in this case.

Borrow'd and blue
Old and new. )

Lately, I've been very dissatisfied with most of my work immediately after I get it to a refined point, even if I LOVED it just a moment ago.
I am becoming an Artist.
I used to call myself an Artist, but now I AM one.
So, this is how it's going to be from here on out, huh.
Play on, play on.

Bipolarity part 1
So, I've been MAJORLY bipolar on my story concepts lately. I'm currently tossing around ideas for two other webcomics (I refuse to do more than 3 at once e_e;) since I don't want to have just one, and my mind's been running rampant lately.

So since this is also my creativity journal, I'll write about that now.

Aside from Improbable Probability, which I've put off until I've mastered my style, and Millennium which is my ever-so-beloved guinea pig, I'm trying to come up with two other solid ideas for webcomics that I really like that I won't regret starting a month later.

And it's hard.

I have many concepts derived from dreams/daydreams/out of nowhere. I can't make a lot of them work, because all of my stories are similar (quest! something happens, and then there's an adventure for it) or I just can't think of an original plot device. It's really sad - I can't come up with more about my ideas! I wonder how Millennium ever got so developed!

And here they are. )

Edit: Haha, I found the chibi tutorial I referenced years back. Polykarbon is awesome.

http://www.polykarbon.com/tutorials/chibi/chibiart.htm I love the part about "small, well-formed hands". That's a big part of this true chibi look. Also, the feet.
