When Stuff Happens
I totally just completed a commission in a day (well, maybe 4 hours, longer than it should have taken) to have enough money to buy Jump Ultimate Stars while it's on sale... :O Awesome.
That's the last of my free-to-spend money, though (aside from the lagging Wii Reserve). Next splurge is uhh, next Christmas graduation.
I believe money should be put aside for influential/relevant things like games and nice things like vacations. I want to do something like that when I start making supportive money. (Or any money.)

So, Tom Bancroft (who designed Mulan's Mushu! I had not realized) gave me notes on some of my new Millennium drawings because I spent all my Friday drawing there, 'cause there was nothing else I could do at the time!

It's like this! )

I love how precise Tom and Rob are. They are because they have to be! They're animators! It's craaayzy! (It's like getting better at changing lanes while driving because you have to...a lot. Yay analogies!)

I'd post more, but I'm saving it for the website.
It's funny how art progresses. I was looking at stuff in Mil's development folder, the ones marked "last modified 2005", and it was like throwing salt into my eyes. My old art was charming in a way...but oh so insubstantial. It's funny. (Oh, but it's making me want to change Arti back into a Drakken Elf...)

Sometimes I think I'm much more into writing than art (I'd rather write 1000 words than a picture? I do it much more often), but I do love art too much. I need to put as much effort in both.
I got off Monday and Tuesday. They will be my Art Days/Comic Days. Friday was also an Art Day since I didn't have anything I could immediately do at intern-work.

Also: I fixed this picture of Kkioh...

...Much better now. Also, have some random crap lawl, and did I ever post this? (Len the talking lynx from Cornand, wheeee)

And: [info]pandaman_dan's browsers have the best errors!

EFF YEAH!

You know, I think I could be a cleanup artist at an animation company, yes, definitely a good one...
...except I wouldn't want to. I found out a year or so ago that I'm all about design. Let someone else do the tedious work!
Not that it isn't enjoyable. I enjoy doing things like that from time to time, because I certainly can't design all the time. >_> (Though I should be able to. I hate having to wake up during short nights to draw something that popped into my head, but maybe I should just start anyway?) I could definitely get by on it.

Something I drew last week while not thinking. Could have been cleaner. This is Kkioh from Cornand (again), drawn during my brief argghhh gotta draw a decent tiger phase. I feel better now. There're some things wrong with it that jump out at me, but they're easily fixed. If I want to fix 'em, that is. Maybe I'll just draw more.
This time I tried drawing his stripes in a way I can replicate panel after panel. It's really not that bad.

Interning with FPP has taught me you can make pretty hot lineart with a good 2B pencil and a nice col-erase blue! That's where I wasn't thinking with the above pic: made his face too sketchy starting off. Could have made it lineart! Oh well, again, again.
I need to buy some supplies.

I have a lot of Mil stuff floating around now... it's actually getting kind of chaotic. Luckily I have two huge paper clips! (A third is being used for Cornand. I have no storage for this kind of stuff...)
I keep forgetting what I'm going to write here. Wait, I know! A day later!

Millennium is the only comic I've written fairly completely that I haven't ditched, and that I have no desire to. Moon Puma was completely scripted, and LDLK got about 90% there, but then I just didn't want to do them anymore. Something about the rigid solidarity, which is not what the point of having those stories and putting effort forth were (they were supposed to feel looser, especially LDLK). This is why I'm only loosely scripting Cornand, but I think Cornand will be a lot more desirable for me to keep working with the way it's set up. It's got a lot of characters but really only focuses on two, where I can diverge from them from time to time and have fun with all these other wacky racers.* I guess I've made the characters a lot more likable to work with, too - MP didn't have enough, and LDLK had too many that felt essentially the same. On the other hand, Millennium (especially now, with character redesigns) is loaded with fun, action and things that amuse me and seemingly others. I looked back over the second half of Arc II today, and it's loaded with comedy (comedy I like, because it was inspired by friends - even if it was 3 years ago, it still flows), amongst "epic" events. I made dynamic changes to that arc recently, and while parts of it are drawn out they're just interesting enough for me to want to go through, and if I can others can, and I just adore it.

I seriously need to get back in the groove of making completed comic pages (or any kind of art), though.

* I decided for some reason that I wanted to have 20 teams of races, 10 of which were the "main" racers and 10 who would end up getting lost (or killed?) in the dangerous Great World Race. A lot of those "extra" 10 I'm starting to grow fond enough to swap them out with the "main" ones, but I had trouble filling 20 slots. So besides asking for idea-boosters from the guys I work with, I decided I would use characters from dead projects of mine, lol. I'd hate for them to stick around while not in their own worlds, so as extras they would have to be offed eventually.
I decided to take...
- Alpha and Koushoku from Improbable Probability, which I'm glad I never started, although I still like them both. (It's the kind of series I'd only do now if I were getting paid, but it still wouldn't come out as well as my devoted work on Millennium unpaid!)
- Azki and his dragon Nasiyas from Lost Dream, Last Kiss. I like them. They'll probably get lost.
- Nectir and Moon Puma/Shiroku. These two can't actually work together! Not in something THIS big! Before it was a simple stroll through a split mountain...

Anyway, that was a simple solution for three slots I don't have random characters for. But I keep thinking of more. The designs for the extras are kind of ridiculous, and that makes working on C:TGWR more fun.

Also, I am taking a bit of inspiration from Wacky Races (in that it's wacky)... but not much, as this is fantasy, letting me go waaay out there lol. Also, a few other racing tales that I've always been curious about. Yay! Research! /blab

Character Dump

Holy crap, an actual sketchdump. )

I've got lots of squeaky-doored opportunities right now. Luckily, I'm willing to do about anything, and in that way to learn from everything.

PS: Pokémon Pearl is eating my soul. Must draw demi-realism Luxray.
I want ice cream.
